Drum Center of Indianapolis- Vintage Drums

Monthly Feature Story By Harry Cangany

Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame

Just visited the beautiful HOF and I am very impressed with Cleveland. I hadn't been there in years and I cannot get over the renaissance of that city.

I am disappointed as a drummer, through, that the museum has such little percussion related material. I saw the following:

1) A mid 60s Gretsch set with a metal Rogers, Dyna-Sonic that belonged to the late Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. I do know he played Gretsch some, but he mostly used Camco drums with Rogers mounts.

2) Two Supraphonics- one from Hal Blaine and U2s, Larry Mullen, Jr.

3) A very large drumstick display from a fan.

4) The original Ludwig/Beatles drum head used on the February 1964 Sullivan shows.

5) Two Beatle outfits of Ringo including his pink Sgt. Pepper band uniform.

6) One of Keith Moons Pictures of Lily toms.

There are lots of guitars obliviously, but I was hoping for more drums and drummers. The Year 2000 inductees, through, do include Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer, so we are moving in the right direction.

It's a beautiful place- now fill it with beautiful drums.

If you want to learn more about the drums used in the history of Rock 'n' Roll, we invite you to order an autographed copy of his Harry's book for Modern Drummer, the "The Great American Drums". It's only $ 19.95 plus shipping.
