The Power of Music
I saw a great old-time concert last night- 4 sets. The
stars were Lou Christy, the Grass Roots, the Association, and Frankie Vallie.
True,
those acts were around during my teenage years, and so I could remember most of
the words to most of the songs. Bands backed the first and last acts, and the
middle two were self-contained. It was a great night- terrific tunes, good drum
parts, and a little Las Vegas glitz brought to us by Frankie V.
The
power of that music to allow the audience to forget its collective problems for
a few hours was just that- Powerful. And Frankie also talked about the healing
power of music. He was a good deal patriotic, while I think about it.
The
DW and Pearl rental kits sounded good- I sold that DW, for sure.
All
that was missing was a vintage Ludwig, Rogers, Camco, Slingerland, or Gretsch
set to make it look the part too!
If you'd like to learn more about
these vintage drums, then I invite you to order my book from Modern Drummer
called
"The Great American Drums". It's only $19.95
plus shipping and I'll send you an autographed copy. |
