Drum Center of Indianapolis- Vintage Drums

Monthly Feature Story By Harry Cangany

Hot Drums in a Cooling Economy

Who is hot right now? Well, we see a constant battle between and among Pearl, DW and Tama. There are other fine companies, too. We know that Ludwig and Mapex are also popular and although we don't do business with Yamaha any longer, we are sure they are keeping up.

When I was growing up in the mid 60s, there were seven drum companies; Ludwig, Rogers, Gretsch, Slingerland, Camco, Premier and Leedy (Chicago) that I saw. (I just never saw Sonor). Lately, there have been so many that I don't know how many there have been.

And with all respect to the many small and medium makers, it is anybody's guess what the future will bring.

If you would like to know more about 6 of the big 7 of the old days, then you might want to read my book, "The Great American Drums", written for Modern Drummer. Contact us for information on how to get an autographed copy.
