The Leedy Building
As of this writing, I have had two opportunities to walk through the mostly vacant former home of Leedy Manfuacturing--a.k.a. Leedy Indianapolis.
This over 80,000 square foot location was the home of workers, engineers, and executives of the company that made "The World's Finest Drums."
U.G. Leedy started the company in 1895 and built the first part of this plant in 1910. It was home to Leedy until the company was sold in 1929 to CGConn.
I found the timpani room, which was still intact, as well as the painting area, the dry heat "curing" room, the executive offices, the drumhead area, final assembly, a soundproof testing room, and a number of other interesting locations.
This is only the intact former factory left and we are racing to record everything. If you'd like to know about Leedy, then please order my book for Modern Drummer, and we'll send you an autographed copy of The Great American Drums. |
