Perfection Drums

From time to time, someone will write to me and ask about a little known brand called Perfection. The drum company started in 1903 in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was the brand name for a company known as Walberg & Auge.

Many of our vintage enthusiasts will know the name or the letters W & A or just Walberg. For the most part, the company gave up regular drum manufacturing to make stands, hi hats and holders. The original Buck Rogers snare stand, the first hi hat, the original rail consolette, and the first drum throne.

Walberg made those and other items and sold them to Camco, Gretsch, Leedy, Ludwig, and Rogers, plus items for other companies that disappeared earlier.

Until the company closed, they would occasionally build sets and singles with Gretsch or Rogers lugs and sell them through their retail store. The last know location was in Auburn, Mass 01501.

Walberg often had terrible plating but I don't think I ever saw anything break. They played a very important role in the history of American drums of the 20th Century.

If you would like to know more about vintage drum manufacturers, I invite you to order my book from Modern Drummer called "The Great American Drums". It's only $19.95 plus shipping and I'll send you an autographed copy.
