The Greatest Snare Wires Ever Made

I grew up a "Ludwig guy," and was always happy with the Ludwig brand Snappy Snares that came on my Supraphonic in 1964. Over the years I bought any number of snare drums from lots of manufacturers. I have flipped over hundreds of drums just to look at, probe, and poke the snare wires for their condition.

I think some years ago I came to the conclusion that Slingerland made the best snare wires in the classic era. It's too bad the machinery for them still exists but sits unused in a warehouse.

Before Gibson bought Slingerland, during the years of Gretsch ownership, replica Slingerland snares were made in Taiwan for HSS, the marketing arm that was the sales force for Slingerland/Gretsch.

The copies were very well made. The Slingerland name never appeared on the snares, but they had their own look and a collector will know them- and appreciate them too.
