eBay and Vintage Drums
I think that about every four years I have written that
eBay has become the marketplace for Vintage Drums. The values sometimes flare up
and sometimes are too low, but for the most part, it seems on eBay that supply
meets demand.
If we throw out the ringers- those who are the high
bidders but don't come through- and if we recognize that some things are just
listed at bad times so that few see them, we can still find lots of success
stories. Sure, there are people who don't know what they have and others don't
get what they think they have. For the most part, we see great movements of
products and the products and the prices paid become the norm.
Personally,
I think it's great. No more waiting for ads. No more wondering if you're
imagining the right drum or the right finish. One word of caution- always have
the right reference book handy. I recommend my book for Modern Drummer,
