The Millennium Thing To Do

The sobering world of Guitar values. I just looked at an ad for a 1958 Fender Stratocaster. The ad described it as mint, and I'm sure it was. It was $10,500. Since I had just finished restoring a 1958 Ludwig set and saw a mint 4 piece with hardware for $1,200, I was once again struck at the disparity in values.

There are $5-10,000 guitars all over the place. I saw an ad for a 1976 Gretsch White Falcon for $18,000. And to tell you the truth, I'm not sure what drum vales would approach that, to say nothing of the $75-10,000 values, at least asked for, on other models.

At this point we have Gladstones and Black Beauties in the $7-12,000 range. That's a far cry from $100,000. I think we might be selling ourselves short. A Gretsch White Falcon is a thing of beauty, so is a Gretsch Progressive Jazz Outfit.

I think on January 1, 2000, everyone should mark up the value of vintage drums by 15%- it's the Millennium Thing to do.
